What we are building is modest by design. One teaching room that seats around thirty, a reference shelf holding the printed editions the school has produced along with the works it teaches from, and a small side room for recording so that whoever cannot attend still receives the sitting.
The intention is that the weekly sittings, the winter intensive and the ijāzah readings all happen in the same place, in front of people, and that the recordings are a record of that rather than a substitute for it.
Where the work stands
Updated as each stage closes. Nothing below is listed before it is actually paid for.
The premises
A unit was found and secured after two years of looking. It is reachable by public transport and large enough for the teaching room and the shelf without being larger than the school can carry.
Fitting out
Flooring, seating, lighting and the shelving are being done in stages as funds allow. The recording corner is the last of these, because a sitting can happen without it.
The shelf
A working reference library rather than a display: the printed editions the school has produced, the classical works taught from, and the commentaries a muʿīd needs at hand while teaching.
The first sitting
A weekly reading open to anyone who turns up, taught in person and recorded for those who cannot. The date will be announced here before it is announced anywhere else.
